My quest to know and understand the 21 Taras has ended in mystery. I have more questions than answers about them. Some (Sarasvati and Kurukulla), if not all, are other goddesses. Three well known Buddhist lineages and numerous others work with slightly varying sets of 21 Taras, all associated with the 11th century text, Praises to the 21 Taras. All are considered to be emanations of Green Tara and are typically pictured around Her (White Taras are often golden and Black Taras, blue).
