Build
an altar to Gaia, the well-founded One (or to any of the Earth Goddesses
that appeal to you). Use a lot of rocks, any kind of rock, on your
altar. Spend some time there each day, connecting with the enduring
stability of the rocks. Ask the Mother to hold you in Her arms

Buy
some hematite and wear it or keep it in your pocket. Touch it often.
It is one of the most grounding stones (onyx is also a good grounding
stone). Charm it: create an affirmation about being grounded and
say it (aloud or subvocally) each time you touch it, and touch it
often. (An example might be: "I am [your name]. I am grounded.
I am calm. I am firmly rooted like a tree in the Mother. I am solid
as a rock.")
-
Find
a substantial tree that calls to you and spend time with it. Visualize
it when you aren't with it. Connect with its roots, or visualize
them reaching deep into the earth. Stand or sit with your feet flat
on the ground and send down your own roots. Do this daily.
-
Find
a cemetery. They are usually quiet and beautiful. Take a walk in
it often. Know that you are of the earth.
-
Study
the earth element. Learn the geologic history of your area. Study
the trees, plants and animals native to your area. Find a spot that
appeals to you and visit it often. Discover the connections between
your body and the topography. Gather some local dirt and put it
on your altar. Cut pictures of earthy things from magazines and
make a collage, or frame them, and put them where you'll see them
often.
-
Breathe.
Focus on your breath. When you breathe out, think "outbreath";
when you breathe in, think "inbreath." Make a regular
practice of this, maybe even doing it for a few minutes before you
get out of bed in the morning, or at night before you go to sleep.
Whenever you feel yourself getting ungrounded, or worried, just
go back to this. "Outbreath, inbreath." This is the basis
of meditation; it puts you smack in the present; it can be incredibly
comforting.
-
Study
the phases of the moon. Find a way to embody the waxing moon period
and the waning moon period (one of the best ideas I've heard is
to wear a special ring all the time, but on the left hand when the
moon is waning and on the right when it is waxing). Connect with
distant ancestors, who drew great comfort and a sense a stability
from the constancy of the ever changing, ever renewing moon.
